There are 3 types of contraindications, if you are unsure about any of the below please just ask your therapist, it’s always worth a quick chat to put your mind at rest.
Total Contraindications
Please be aware you will not be accepted for a treatment in the following cases:
– If you have a fever
– If you have any contagious diseases including cold or flu, even if it is mild
– If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs
– If you have diarrhoea or vomiting
– If you have any untreated severe medical condition or acute pain
– If you have a kidney infection
Medical Contraindications
Please ensure you have written consent from your doctor to have reflexology in the following cases:
– Any condition you are currently being treated for by a GP or other practitioner
– Pregnancy
– Epilepsy
– Diabetes
– Cancer
– When taking prescribed medication
Local Contraindications
Please be aware that in some situations certain areas on the foot cannot be treated and will be avoided or corresponding reflexes on the hand may be used instead, such as:
– If there are cuts or abrasions on the foot
– If there is inflammation or localised swelling
– If there is a bite or sting
– If there is sunburn
– If there are undiagnosed lumps or bumps
– If there is bruising
– If there is scar tissue
